Chalcedony & Quartz on Chrysocolla
Tenke Fungurume, Luluaba, Democratic Republic of Congo
This striking specimen showcases a fascinating mineralogical story frozen in time. A vibrant layer of druzy Quartz on Chrysocholla serves as the backdrop for botryoidal growths of Chalcedony. The Chrysocholla formed as a pseudomorph after Malachite — itself a pseudomorph after Baryte. Each transformation records a stage of mineral replacement, creating a one-of-a-kind natural sculpture.
The specimen glitters under light thanks to countless microcrystals, giving it an almost otherworldly, abstract appearance. Up close, its textures resemble frozen landscapes or alien terrains, making it as appealing to collectors as it is to lovers of natural art and photography.
