Fluorite w/ Galena & Sphalerite

Milpo Mine, Atacocha, Peru

A striking mint-green fluorite crystal perched elegantly on a lustrous matrix of galena and sphalerite from the famed Milpo Mine, Cerro de Pasco, Peru. The fluorite exhibits excellent transparency and a subtle bluish-green hue that sets it apart from typical green fluorites of the locality.

This delicate menthol-green color results from a combination of natural irradiation, which creates color centers within the crystal lattice, and trace amounts of rare-earth elements (notably yttrium (Y³⁺) and cerium (Ce³⁺)) that fine-tune the light absorption spectrum toward the blue. The result is a refreshing, almost glacial tone that enhances the specimen’s visual depth and contrast against the metallic luster of its galena and sphalerite base.

A superb example of color chemistry and aesthetic harmony in Peruvian fluorite.
